ADVISORY COMMITTEE

MINUTES FOR MEETING HELD JUNE 13, 2002

  1. Present: Becky Lehmann, Chair, Jim Peters, Marla Hauslaib, Staff: Sheila Thompson.

  2. Communications:

    1. The School Readiness Grant has been prepared and submitted to the State. No report has been received as to funding for this next fiscal year.

    2. Marilyn Gerling has postponed her retirement until November, 2002.

    3. Jamie Pociask, School Readiness Parent Education Coordinator has resigned and the position will be advertised with hopes of filling the position soon.

    4. B. Lehmann called attention to all items included in the agenda packet.

  3. Minutes from May 2, and special meeting May 15,2002: Minutes were accepted and approved unanimously.Old Business:

    1. Discussion focused on proposed changes to the Dept. Director’s job description, and the Committee unanimously agreed to the proposed changes, which will be brought to the attention of the Assistant Town Manager, Matt Hart.

      1. Report was given to update the Committee on the office procedures and coverage during the transition of staff.

      2. The position of Director has been posted and advertised nationally.

  1. New Business:

    1. Discussion centered on the timetable of tasks and activities of the Committee. It was decided that the proposed schedule for Sept., Oct., and Nov. would remain somewhat flexible, to accommodate for new staff and new Committee members. It was also suggested that the Legislative Meeting continue, with planning to begin in September.

    2. Terms of Ron Baker and Ed Passmore expire 9/19/02, and Becky will make contact with them to learn whether they wish to remain on the Committee. Jim Peters indicated that he would be willing to consider another rwo year appointment. Committee members were asked to provide names of possible candidates if replacements are needed.

    3. Marilyn Gerling was present to provide a report on her future thoughts regarding programs, facilities, and procedures for the Senior Center. She plans to retire in November, 2002. The Committee thanked her for her many years of good work for the seniors of Mansfield. It was suggested by the Committee that perhaps the Senior Center could make use of a suggestion box for participants in Center programs.
