Welcome,

It is my pleasure as Town Manager to welcome you to our community. Mansfield, with a population of 21,544, is located in the northeastern portion of the state, better known as Connecticut's "Quiet Corner". Home to the University of Connecticut (UConn), Mansfield offers all the cultural attractions of a major university within the beauty of a rural setting.

Founded in 1702 and incorporated in 1703, Mansfield recently celebrated its 300th anniversary. We strive to be a “community of choice,” and to provide a great place to live, work and play. Our public schools are second to none, and we pride ourselves on the quality and range of public services that we offer. We also have ready access to Connecticut’s capitol region, which boasts one of the most successful economies in the Northeast. And, we are committed to diversity and participatory government.

Mansfield currently has a number of exciting projects underway. We recently opened our 37,500 square-foot Community Center to great acclaim, and members and residents now enjoy using the Center’s many amenities such as the pool, health club, dance studio, teen center and walking track.

Also of interest is the Mansfield Downtown Partnership’s "Storrs Center Development Project." The Town, the University of Connecticut, the business community and residents have all collaborated to establish the Partnership, a not-for-profit organization responsible for coordinating the enhancement and revitalization of various commercial areas in Mansfield. With the Storrs Center project, residents as well as visitors can look forward to a newly created downtown that will provide a variety of services, including a village green, specialty shops, apartment-style housing as well as plenty of attractive restaurants and cafés. Adding considerable excitement to this project is internationally renowned architect Frank L. Gehry’s re-design of the University’s School of Fine Arts, which will serve as a prominent feature of the new downtown village center.

As home to the University of Connecticut, Mansfield offers a wide variety of cultural and educational opportunities. UConn, a Research I University, is currently ranked as the best public university in New England. I encourage you to venture on campus and take advantage of Jorgensen Auditorium's theater and musical performances, or the art, natural history and puppetry museums. As always, UConn athletics provide entertainment for sports enthusiasts throughout the state. UConn men and women's basketball teams and men's soccer have all been crowned national champions in recent years.

I also recommend that you take advantage of the natural beauty of Mansfield. Home to the Mansfield Hollow State Park and Dam, many boating, kayaking, fishing and hiking opportunities exist in our town. In addition to the State Park, the Town of Mansfield has created and supports a large number of trails throughout the community.

In closing, I want to thank you for visiting the official Town of Mansfield web site. If this web site is unable to assist you in your search, please feel to contact my office directly at TownMgr@mansfieldct.org. You can also reach us by calling 860.429.3336. I hope that you are able to visit us in person in the near future. Once you have, I am sure that you will agree that Mansfield, Connecticut is a true community of choice and offers a great place to live, work and play!

Sincerely,

Matthew Hart
