Notary Public

Services and Fees

The Town Clerk's office in Mansfield has a Notary Public for your convenience. The Notary Public is a public official appointed by the Secretary of the State through the power vested in the secretary by state law. The notary has the power to administer oaths, take acknowledgments and perform other duties as permitted by law.

  1. We offer the following services:
    1. We can administer an oath.
    2. We can take acknowledgements.
    3. We can take an affidavit.
    4. We can supply the Name Change forms for Land Records only. Otherwise all other forms must be purchased at a stationary supply store or through your attorney.

    Charge for notarizing is $5.00 as authorized by the Connecticut General Statute.

  2. However, there are certain statutory requirements necessary before we can do the above.

    You Must:

    1. Be personally know to us; or
    2. Show absolute proof as to your identity by showing any of the following:
      1. Driver's License or other Photo ID, or
      2. Birth Certificate AND Social Security Card
  3. Because of the legal requirements, please do not ask us to notarize:
    1. A conveyance of land or property
    2. A will-health, living or general wills
    3. Birth, death or marriage certificates not in file in our office
    4. Anything, from anyone, who is not appearing before us in person

    Consultation concerning Living Wills, Health related wills or Power of Attorney will be provided by the Department of Social Services. There is no charge for services by that department.

  4. Please remember that we must observe the law and the legally required standard of "Reasonable Care" to protect all parties involved. Consequently, we do reserve the right to modify these services as necessary. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.
The following are fees necessary for recording notaries:
Original commission of notary public, must be recorded in the town of residence of the notary and additionally may be recorded in the town or towns in which the notary does business $10.00
Renewal commission $10.00
Change of name only $1.00
Change of name and change of address within town $1.00
Change of name and change of address to a new town $10.00
Change of address to new town but not change of name $10.00
Change of address within town but no change of name $0
For authenticating the signature of a notary the town clerk will receive $2.00

Documents being sent to certain countries may need the apostille or authentication of the Secretary of the State in addition to that of the town clerk. The document should be directed to Authentications, Secretary of the State, 30 Trinity Street, Hartford, Ct. 06106 and the fee is $20.00.
