Dear Community Member:

 

I am writing to request your participation in a Leadership Work Group that is forming to develop a strategic plan for young children in Mansfield.  This group is forming as part of a grant application to support the development of a comprehensive community plan for young children that aligns with the goals established in the Connecticut's Early Childhood Framework "Ready by 5 & Fine by 9". These goals are: to reach appropriate developmental milestones from birth to 5, to begin Kindergarten with the knowledge, skills, and behaviors needed for success in school, and to have Kindergarten-3grade education experiences that extend children’s birth to 5 learning and ensure consistent progress in achieving reading mastery.

 

This Leadership Work Group (LWG) will provide direction for development of the community plan and maintain Mansfield’s interest and commitment over time.  Our goal is for this group to be inclusive and able to reach out to and consult with all segments of the community to build broad-based ownership of the planning process.  This group will be responsible for performing the following charge:

 

·        Coordinate the strategic planning process and the preparation of the strategic plan, under the guidance of Mansfield Advocates for Children and in consultation with community participants, staff and the project facilitator. 

·        Serve as a resource and advisory committee to Mansfield Advocates for Children, staff, the project facilitator and community participants.

·        Understanding that the planning process will be community-based and inclusive, make best efforts to keep the public informed of the status of the planning process, and to solicit public involvement in that process. 

·        Ensure that the plan is linked to and consistent with the Town of Mansfield’s overall strategic plan.

 

At this point we anticipate that your commitment would be to meet monthly between now and June, 2009 to provide direction and input.  We will have an initial information meeting so that you may come and hear more about the project and what is involved.
