MANSFIELD ADVOCATES FOR CHILDREN

DIRECTORY OF
LICENSED EARLY CARE and EDUCATION, HOME CARE and

BEFORE and AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMS

in

MANSFIELD , CT

This directory is meant to be used by anyone looking for State-licensed early care and education,   home care or before- and after-school programs in Mansfield.  Program directors who agreed to participate in this project provided information about their programs to Sandy Baxter, who compiled the directory.  Arrangement is by type of child care program -- Early Care & Education Programs, Home Care and Before and After School Programs -- and then alphabetically by name of program or provider.

The information about each program is descriptive only, and not to be interpreted as an endorsement of or recommendation by the Town of Mansfield Social Service Department or the Mansfield School Readiness Council.  Every effort has been made to secure information that is accurate as of March 2009.

relaxed, informal environment, beautiful new facility. Children’s natural interest in play forms the basis of the CCC program and philosophy.  Through play a child learns what it is to be a friend, to have a friend, to negotiate, compromise and solve problems.  Materials like clay, crayons, paint, sand, water and building toys teach children to share, take turns and play together in large and small groups.  Play takes place indoors and outdoors, so children learn about the world around them.  Letters and numbers are a natural part of the CCC environment.  We believe each child establishes an interest in them gradually and individually.  The adults’ job is to notice, support and encourage each child’s interests and development in all areas.  We provide a wide range of materials, games, songs and activities.

Special features:  SCNS was established in 1967.  Our pre school provides a stimulating environment with varied materials and equipment available to ensure School Readiness.  Children are offered experience with books, music, art, science, social studies, cooking and nutrition, and creative movement.  Art projects encourage self-expression.  There is the opportunity for quiet as well as vigorous play and for social experience as the children interact. Field trips, short “nature walks,” outdoor play area, and visiting guests add another dimension to the program.

A balanced program of experiences and activities is planned daily, taking into consideration that the primary objective of the SCNS is the optimum development of each child physically, socially and emotionally.

Special features:  .As a newly licensed day care (Sept. 07), I am excited to open my home and farm to young children.  We have a lard indoor space for children to play in as well as a fenced yard, vegetable field, and a small wood lot for children to explore.  I don’t run my day care on a preschool model but rather as an open environment for children to learn about themselves and their world.  We read, do art projects, engage in creative play, cook, clean, go for walks, feed the animals, play in the garden, and attempt group decision making.  We often go on field trips to the library, community center, and local parks,  I use simple sign language with the youngest kids and fully support breast feeding moms.
