Roadside Litter

Residents are encouraged to keep a section of their road free of litter. The Mansfield Public Works Department can be of assistance. Litter taken to the transfer station is not subject to trash fees. Let the attendant at the transfer station know that you are bringing in litter and you will not be charged for it. If you are signed up for trash collection service, place bags of litter next to your household trash. Write “litter” on any bags that put you over your service level. We ask that you recycle cans and bottles litter. For large volumes of litter, you may contact the public works department at 429-3333 to arrange a public works crew to make a pick-up.

Rid Litter Day

Every spring the Town promotes a Rid Litter Day. This is usually scheduled the Saturday after UConn’s spring weekend. Residents are encouraged to spend an hour or two that day to clean up roadside litter.

Adopt-A-Road

Sign-up to keep a section of road clean throughout the year. Adoptees commit to regularly remove litter from a designated portion of road. They decide on the portion of road and frequency of collection. Of the 104 miles of Mansfield roads, 34 miles have been adopted. Call 429-3333 to participate.
