Welcome to the Town of Mansfield’s Information Technology Office. 

This introduction is intended to provide an overview of the computer environment and software applications supported by the Town’s IT Department.The Information Technology Office is a division of the Finance Department and works closely with the employees of the Finance Department.

 Mission Statement

The mission of the Informtion Technology Department is to develop and maintain efficient, cost effective, information systems for the Town and Schools and to develop and provide the necessary support services to its customer base to assure their successful utilization.

List of Services and Who to Call

In order to obtain quick service, use our on-line ticket tracking system http://www.mansfieldct.org/ttx/ttx.cgi Although every effort is made to provide assistance the same day, this may not always be possible due to the nature of the call.  Operational problems are always assigned the highest priority.  A commitment is made to provide feedback to the user prior to the close of business as to the expected time to resolve the problem. 

Information Technology Manager: Reports directly to the Town’s Finance Director and Controller. The IT Manager assumes overall responsibility for the department including budgets and planning. The IT Manager also maintains the Towns Alpha computer which runs the Town's major applications from accounting to dogs (licenses).

Network Administrator (servers): is typically the first point of contact for any questions or problems relating to server equipment. The primary responsibility of this position is the maintenance and support of the Town’s Wide area network and the Town’s Local Area networks in all municipal buildings.

Information Specialist I (software): is typically the first point of contact for any questions or problems relating to desktop software or PC related problems. This position is also responsible for maintaining the Town’s Web site. 

Training Programs

PC users are expected to have basic skills in Windows 95, 98 or 2000 and Microsoft Office 2000.  Users who will be using a PC but do not have this basic level of proficiency are encouraged to take outside training via the company the Town has contracted to provided training with, New Horizons. The Town Human Resources office can provide information on training. 

Equipment Loans

The IT department maintains two standalone loaner laptops configured with Word, Excel and PowerPoint.  The laptops can be checked out to employees for Town business such as a weekend project or evening meeting minutes. 

The IT department also has a data projector which can also be checked out for presentations. Additional data projectors are available at the Mansfield Community Center and the Public Library as well as the Schools.

Common Resources

The Town has been installing many networked copiers. There are several located throughout the Town. Some of these copiers are also scanners and can be used for creating large packets of material for copying or sending a page or two to someone in a PDF format.

The IT department also has a color scanner available for Staff use.

Voice Communications is supported by the Voice Communications Coordinator and is not a part of the Town’s IT division.
