Revaluation Project Update ~ February 2009
Interior and exterior inspections, performed by the Assessor’s Office, began last year in the Northeastern part of town. Good progress has been made, however, the harsh winter weather has proven to be a bit of a challenge. Therefore, in order to expedite the inspection process, we will be implementing the use of “data mailers.”
What is a data mailer? Essentially, it is a fact sheet containing itemized information as it appears on the homeowner’s property record card. Those who receive a data mailer will be asked to review the information contained therein, make any necessary corrections, sign and return the form to the Assessor’s Office in the time allowed. Please note: Certain discrepancies in data will necessitate an interior inspection before any change can be made to the property record card.
Does the use of data mailers mean that the Assessor’s Office will no longer be conducting street by street inspections? NO. Systematic inspections will continue up to the October 1st revaluation date and beyond. The use of data mailers enables us to satisfy statutory requirements pertaining to inspections within the allotted timeframe.
Additionally, the plan is to have a digital photograph of each residence on file prior to revaluation assessment notices being sent out. Although the photos will not print out on the actual property record card, they will be linked to the parcel and stored electronically for easy retrieval.
The Assessor’s Office will be providing periodic updates online as the 2009 Revaluation Project progresses. In the meantime, be sure to check out the Commonly asked Questions & Answers link.
