Subject: 2009 Town wide Revaluation Project
The Town of Mansfield Assessor’s Office will soon begin conducting systematic inspections, starting with the Northern part of town, in preparation of our upcoming 2009 Revaluation. This is to satisfy statutory requirements that all parcels in Town “be viewed by physical inspection on or after June 27, 1997, and not later than October 1, 2009.” (Subdivision (3) of subsection (a) of section 12-62.) These inspections are a critical component of the revaluation process, for accurate data are the basis of a successful outcome.
As with the 2000 and 2004 Revaluations, we will be conducting the 2009 Revaluation “in house” with the assistance of our consultants at Information Applications & Solutions, Inc. This not only provides substantial financial savings to the Town, but is beneficial in that we know Mansfield well and are right here, available to respond to your questions and concerns throughout the duration of the project.
Mary Terhune and I will be performing the above-mentioned inspections and will carry with us identification as Town employees. Additionally, property owners will be notified by letter in advance of our visit so as to know when to expect us. Ideally, the inspection process should take no more than 15 minutes. In addition to taking a digital image of the property, we will be verifying existing data as it appears on the property record card, both interior and exterior. Please note that it is to your advantage to allow us the courtesy of an interior inspection, which we will conduct as non-invasively as possible. Should we find no one at home on our initial visit, we will leave a notice requesting you to call the office to set up an appointment for a mutually convenient time for us to return.
