Municipal Permit and License Information

Building Permits

Building Permits are required to construct, enlarge, alter, or demolish a structure, change the occupancy of a structure requiring greater strength, exit or sanitary provisions, or change to another use, or to install or alter any equipment when regulated by the Code.

Planning and Zoning Commission / Inland Wetland Agency Permits

Fees vary depending on proposed activity.

Planning and Zoning Commission approval is required for subdivisions, multi-family housing, efficiency apartments, commercial/industrial development or changes in use, gravel removal / fill activity, live music activity and many other land uses. The Inland Wetland Agency permits are required for most new construction and land disturbing activity within 150 feet of inland wetlands or watercourses. For more information contact Grant Meitzler, Inland Wetland Agent, at 860.429.3334.

Zoning Permits are required for new buildings and certain site or building improvements, including signs, sheds, garages, swimming pools and parking lots. For more information contact Curt Hirsch, Zoning Agent, at 860.429.3341.
