Meeting Minutes

Call to Order

 Ethel Mantzaris, Chair, called the meeting to order at 12:07

 

 

I.                    Approval of Minutes – MOTION by Frank Perrotti,  seconded by Eileen Griffin.  Vote: Unanimous in favor of approving minutes as submitted.

Pat Michalak – YSB Coordinator Update

 

  • The budget timeline was discussed, the part-time position was included, and there was an increase request for training.
  • On January 7, 2008 the Social Service Departments will present it’s budget proposal for 2009 to the Town Manager and the Finance Director.

 

The following activities occurred for November:

    • H.I.F.I. Grief group had 25 participants and there is a waiting list
    • Mentoring – Homework Group had 20 UConn students, 20 students and 10 parents participate
    • Individual and Family Therapy
    • Multi-Family – 13 families, the monthly Multi-family group is functioning successfully and is at capacity
    • Assessments and Consultations – YSB continues to support school referrals
    • Holiday giving – YSB staff has been involved with matching families with donors for the Christmas holiday

 

Introduction of Amber Hoyt, sophomore at EOSmith High School, new student member to the Advisory Board

 

      Amber shared with the Board members her involvement with Mansfield

Youth Service Bureau since 1st grade and the many support services that she has received which include: individual counseling, participation in the COPE program, and grief support.  Amber now volunteers her time to assist and support the staff and clients of YSB

 

Introduction of Sheila Riffle, Vice Principal for EOSmith High school to the        Board members. 

 

II.      Old Business:

  • Letter from the Youth Service Advisory Board members was given to the Town Manager regarding budget cuts to the Youth Service Bureau.  Matt responded by saying he would reply to the Board.

 

III.    New Business: 

·        Mike Collins suggested the YSB develop a plan, flow charts and goals to validate the needs of the ever changing Youth Service Bureau.

·        Kathy McNamara suggested the Board form a subcommittee.  Mike Collins will Chair the sub-committee.

·        The Board advised Pat that they would like Kevin involved and would like him to contact Board members for participation on the sub-committee.

     

IV.               Other: 

·        The Board requested a meeting with Kevin prior to the Town Council meeting on March 23, 2008 to go over the budget requests for YSB.

·        The Board requested that Kevin notify the Town Manager’s Office that the Youth Service Bureau Advisory present to the Town Council.
