Town of Mansfield Traffic Authority
Minutes of the Meeting – August 25,
2009
Present: Hart, Hultgren, Jackman, Meitzler, Padick
The meeting
convened at 10:40 am.
Pedestrian
awareness campaign – Padick reported on his meeting with the UConn landscape
study committee. The need for a
Town/UConn sponsored pedestrian awareness campaign (safe walking in Mansfield!)
was discussed. Hultgren will frame the
issue in a memo which will be referred to appropriate Town committees, UConn
and the Health District for comment and assistance.
Centerline
striping – no progress
Clover Mill
Road/195 alternative bus stop location – no progress
Eastwood Road
crosswalk request – members will be observing the Eastwood Road/Hillside Road
intersection during September prior to considering the request at the September
meeting.
Speeds near
791 Mansfield City Road – Hultgren marked Mansfield City Road for 5 additional speed signs in this vicinity. A street light at
the corner of White Oak Road has been requested of CL&P. The matter will be referred to the Resident
State Trooper’s office for spot enforcement.
Speeds
on Puddin Lane – waiting for classifier data.
Petition/letter
sent to DOT regarding the pedestrian crossing at 195/Hanks Hill Rd – The
neighborhood petition sent to the DOT commissioner was discussed. DOT’s traffic engineer has explained that the
warrants for a pedestrian signal are 100 pedestrians per hour for 4 hours or
190 pedestrians per hour for one hour which clearly will not be met at this
intersection. The DOT will be
recommending that a sidewalk be built on the East side of 195 so that the
crossing of 195 at Hanks Hill Road is not necessary. Other options, including a median in 195 from
275 to Hanks Hill Road were discussed.
Further study will be triggered by DOT’s response.
The meeting
concluded at approximately 11:15 AM.
Respectfully
submitted,
Lon Hultgren
