TOWN OF MANSFIELD

Traffic Authority

Minutes of the Meeting

10/09/2008

Present:   Hart, Hultgren, Padick, Meitzler

275/Sycamore intersection – Hultgren reported that he had talked to Kevin Ng at the DOT about this re-investigation and it was done but the report was yet to be sent to the Town.

Updated Town road speed limits – Hart reported that he had a conversation with DOT representatives that they had been approved, but the report has not yet been received.

89/195 intersection requests – sign about the church driveway and warning of the Route 195 pedestrian crossing.  Hultgren discussed this with Kevin Ng and will send Ng the original request regarding the church driveway sign (which he apparently did not have).  –pending.

Route 44 at Codfish Fall s intersection – pending with DOT.  Hultgren reported that a different DOT Traffic Engineer was assigned to this investigation and we should be hearing from him soon.

Route 32 at Route 275 exclusive green – pending with DOT.

WRTD bus stops on Clover Mill Road – Hultgren reported that WRTD will be stopping on Clover Mill Road (north end near 195) on a trial basis as soon as the bus stop signs can be erected and some tree limbs are removed.

Gurleyville Road at Bundy Lane – speed and sight distance concerns.  Meitzler circulated sight distance intervals he had measured and Hultgren reported on the sight distances he measured.  The matter was discussed.  Members felt that the sight distances measured were adequate as long as the bank along Gurleyville Road is kept mowed.  Adequate room to see to the East (from Bundy Lane) exists without having to pull into the eastbound Gurleyville lane, although it is not excessive.  Hultgren will obtain the latest accident data.

Candide Lane speed concerns – Traffic counter showed 102 vehicles per day with reasonable average and 85% speeds.  Does not meet the criteria for speed humps.  Hultgren will write the requesting resident a letter and refer the location to the Resident State Trooper.

Hidden drive request, 98 Gurleyville Road.  It was felt that this location does meet the criteria for a hidden drive sign (a-typical location after a section of road without driveways) and an eastbound hidden drives sign was approved.  Meitzler will mark the location.

“Walk Facing Traffic” sign request for Hunting Lodge Road (ext) and South Eagleville Road (also Hanks Hill Road) – after discussion members decided that more public information on walking facing the traffic on roadways was needed.  Additionally, Hultgren will prepare a draft criteria for the Authority to use when considering placing these signs on Town roads.

UPS drop box in the Town office building parking lot – no action taken.  A parking area map will be reviewed at the November meeting.

Flaherty Road centerline stripes – after discussion it was decided to draft a criteria for centerline striping on local roads and consider this at a future meeting prior to making any decision about the stripes on Flaherty Road.

Speed hump request/petition for Pine Woods Lane – referred to Engineering for traffic counts and speed data on the road.
