1.  Opportunity for Public to Address the Committee

            None

 

2.  September 9, 2008 Meeting Minutes

The minutes of September 9, 2008 were passed unanimously.

 

3.  Announcements and Updates

·         UConn Compost Facility

Mr. Miller updated the committee on the UConn Compost Facility project.  Open House to update public on the project will be November 19 in the Bishop Building.  Property owners within 1,000 feet will be notified by mail.     

·         Mansfield Downtown Partnership

Ms. Van Zelm updated the committee on the Downtown Partnership.  She stated the Festival on the Green and other related activities were a success.  Mayor Patterson stated the committee did an excellent job of organizing the event.  Ms. Van Zelm stated that they are waiting permits/approvals needed from DEP and Army Corps of Engineers.  Mr. Callahan asked that the Town communicate the results of the Town Council’s decision about the agreement with the developer in a timely manner so they DTP has time to prepare communication to the public about the project.           

·         Assisted/Independent Living Project

Mr. Hart updated the committee on the project.  He stated that potential sites are being reviewed.  Mr. Pappanikou asked what the water source would be for the project.  Mr. Hart stated a community well was being considered. 

·         CL&P Interstate Reliability Project

Mr. Hart update the committee on the project.  He stated there will be an Open House on October 22 from 5:30-7:30 at the Community Center.  The impact of the project would impact the Southside of town.  The town has no jurisdiction over the project but can provide comments.      

·         Community Water/Wastewater Issues

Mr. Hart updated the committee about the Four Corners sewer project.  He stated a committee of various stakeholders has been formed to review the project.       

·         Mansfield Community-Campus Partnership

Ms. Elkins updated the committee on the MCCP activities.  She stated the group discussed Spring Weekend recommendations.  Representatives of the group, Mayor Paterson, Julie Elkins, Ryan McHardy and Kevin Grunwald, presented to the UConn Board of Trustees Student Life Committee.  Mr. Hart distributed copies of his written testimony to the Board of Trustees Student Life Committee.  Mr. Barry stated the Student Life Committee will be presenting a report to the whole Board of Trustees based on their findings.        

·         Committee on Community Quality of Life

Mr. Clouette stated the committee is finalizing membership and will begin reviewing landlord ordinances as a first step.  

 

4.  Student Life Committee review of UConn Spring Weekend

The University of Connecticut Board of Trustees Student Life Committee is holding hearings to get feedback from various stakeholders on Spring Weekend.  (See comments under Mansfield Community Campus Partnership section)

            None
