1.  Opportunity for Public to Address the Committee

Letter was submitted by Quentin Kessel, Codfish Falls Rd., regarding his concern about the usage of the University’s firing range.  T. Callahan stated he would forward the letter to Chief Hudd for a response. 

 

2.  June 10, 2008 Meeting Minutes

The minutes of June 10, 2008 were passed unanimously.

 

3.  Campus Community Relations & Preparations for Academic Year and Return of Students

Mr. Hintz reported that the Mansfield Community Campus Partnership is organizing welcome visits in the predominantly student apartment complexes and neighborhoods.  They will also visit other rentals that have been indentified as having student tenants.  UConn is also preparing for opening and will incorporate messages of responsibility in the Husky WOW programs.  Mr. Hart stated that Town and University staff have communicated with the property managers of Carriage House, Celeron Square and New England Realty properties to discuss ways to address behavioral concerns at their off-campus located.  Mr. Callahan inquired about the sidewalk project on Hunting Lodge Road.  Mr. Hart indicated the project may not get done this construction season.               

 

4.  Committee on Community Quality of Life

The Committee on Community Quality of Life will be reconvened be Council.  There is a diverse representation, including Town Council appointees, a Planning and Zoning Commission appointee, Town of Mansfield residents and a UConn appointee by President Hogan.  The committee discussed the idea of having a UConn student representative.  The committee voted unanimously to recommend that Council add a student representative that would be appointed by the UConn Undergraduate Student Government.  The motion was offered by T. Callahan and seconded by R. Miller.

 

5.  UConn Compost Facility

Mr. Miller updated the committee on the UConn Compost Facility project.  Three sites have             been identified and recommend by the external advisory council for UConn consideration. Public meetings will be set as an information session.  Property owners nearest to the potential sites will be invited to information session.  Several factors were included in criteria including costs.     

   

5.  Mansfield Downtown Partnership (MDP)

Mr. Callahan stated the Sustainability Guidelines have been approved by the Partnership.  Council passed guidelines for the negotiations with the developers.  The Festival on the Green is planned for September 14.      

 

6.  Other Business
