- Minutes of May 8, 2007, were approved with one
correction: the pathway under Item
4 is the combined sidewalk/bikeway on Hunting Lodge Road.
- Nothing more was added under the topic of Spring
Weekend.
- Pedestrian Safety. Mr. Padick reported that the Town has received permission to
eliminate one crosswalk on South Eagleville Road that is no longer needed,
and that better lighting was coming from C.L. & P. The Hanks Hill Road crosswalk is to get
improved signage. Mr. Callahan
reported that UConn has completed its initial review of crosswalk safety
and has begun the process to replace the North Eagleville shoulder walkway
with a more permanent pedestrian way.
- Water and Wastewater Master Plan. Mr. Callahan reported that the revised
plan was finished and submitted to the state DPH; he promised to provide
the town with a written copy and CD-ROM.
- Mansfield Downtown Partnership. Ms. Van Zelm reported that the public
hearing was closed and that the two zoning requests were now under
consideration by the Mansfield Planning and Zoning Commission. Next approvals: Mansfield Inland Wetlands, state DOT
approval for Route 195 improvements, Corps of Engineers approval for
wetland changes, state DEP. The
town walkway between Route 195 and the Community Center is finished; the
ribbon-cutting is anticipated for July 16, 2007. Approximately 60 people attended the Partnership’s annual
meeting in June, where Volunteers-of-the-Year were honored.
- Community-Campus Partnership. Mayor Paterson informed the group that
the next meeting will be June 25, 2007, when Jim Hintz, the new off-campus
director, will be introduced. Dean
Bell-Elkins reported that she was working on pulling together data on
Spring Weekend for further analysis.
- Other Business.
Jim Hintz was introduced to the group. He gave a brief account of similar experience with student
activities elsewhere.
Mr.
Callhan inquired about University participation in the Town strategic planning
process. Mayor Paterson replied that
the time had come for the steering committee to be enlarged with additional
stakeholders, including a representative from the University administration,
and that additional University participants would be invited for larger group
activities as the format becomes more clear.
The
meeting adjourned at 4:58 pm.
