Introduction:  Board members were introduced to Emily Tinnel, who will be our Shared School-Public Librarian.  Ms. Tinnel shared some of her background and experience with the Board.

I.  Minutes:  Minutes of the April 27, 2006 meeting were accepted.

II. Communications:   L. Bailey read the letter from Alice Jansen, who shared some of the history of Mansfield Public Library and suggested that the Board might be interested in writing a history of the library.  After discussion, it was agreed that L. Bailey would pass the letter on to the Friends of the Library, perhaps for inclusion in their newsletter.

III. Librarian Report

1.      Planning Grant Progress

Two meetings of the Library Planning Committee were conducted by Chris Bradley on May 25 and June 15.  We ended up with a Planning Committee of 15 people, representing cultural groups, educational, health, religious and ethnic organizations family services, the Friends of the Library, the Mayor, the Assistant Town Manager, the Chair of the Planning and Zoning Commission, the Ass’t Director of Parks and Recreation, and two Library Advisory Board members.  Only the representative of the business community was unable to attend due to illness.  L. Bailey shared presentations she made for each meeting:  visual trend data about the Mansfield community, and information about what the library is currently doing.

Notes from the first meeting were reviewed concerning the vision of Mansfield in 2016.

2.  Revised Web Site

            L. Bailey briefly reviewed the revised library web site, which now includes new “buttons” with information About Us (hours, closed dates, policies, Library Advisory Board, library cards),  the Book Sales, Home Delivery, Museum Passes, Recommended Reading lists, librarian-tested web sites (“Search the Internet”), Story Times, the Town’s web site, Community Organizations, and the Buchanan Auditorium.  Marietta Johnson suggested that the Friends of the Library should also have their own “button” link.
