Sestina of the Sea

The graceful arch of a wave,

crashing down upon the sand,

engorging it with its salt,

as we swim,

gentle foam,

washing through our toes, the soft foam

gives a grand finale to the majestic crash of the wave.

Fish swim

away from the sand

where fishers cast their lines with a splish-splash,

and a salty

breeze drifts through their foamy

beards. A splash

of sunlight cause waves

of people to trot across the burning sand,

and into the water where they swim.

As I swim

through the crowds of people, a salt-

-filled hot dog rolls in the sand,

a cold, foamy

soda waves

into my mouth as I got splashed

by a crabby toddler also splashing

his mother as she swims

over a wave

to find a mouthful of salt,

spitting it foamily

onto a sandy

towel. Wistful footprints in the sand,

get splashed

by the foam

of the ocean. Underwater we swim,

salt

coursing in the wave.

Waves make ruffled patterns in the sand,

salt splashes

in the air, and seaweed swim carelessly through the tender foam.
