The Kaleidoscope
Grandpa, I remember the day that you gave me the kaleidoscope as if it were yesterday. You and Grandma were living at the campground in Chaplin at the time. You always came for the weekend to visit us but this time was different, I was to be given a gift.
I heard the gentle jingle of the wind chime as the door opened. I automatically knew that it was you and grandma. You beam as I hurry to greet you. Our arms wrap around each other as we embrace. You smile and hold out the kaleidoscope as you patiently explain how to use it. You demonstrate how to gaze through it and how to spin the dials. It seems like eternity but finally you give it to me. For the rest of the evening all I do is fool around with it as I am in awe. With its swirls of lilac and flower petals, not to mention the way they mix together is what makes it spectacularly stunning. This kaleidoscope is definitely an heirloom that I will keep forever.
