Requirements:

I.      Students must read the following chapters and be prepared for a quiz that includes vocabulary, the main ideas of the chapter, and class work.  Note:  the main ideas of the chapter are usually explored during class.

II.      Students must complete one of the following for each assignment.  These are due at the start of class on the due dates (same day as the chapter quizzes).  Be sure to follow directions carefully.

 

Assignment Choices – Choices may NOT be repeated!

1.        Complete the “(Applying) Critical Thinking” section at the end of the chapter and define bold and italicized vocabulary for the chapter.  Be sure your answers are thoughtful and thorough.

2.      Create a one-page report in your own words about any famous Roman leader or well known person from the chapter.  Use at least 2 sources.

3.       Create a one-page report in your own words on a Roman war including major battles.  Use at least 2 sources.

4.      Create a poster time line of Roman history with 10 events and a short description of each event.  Use at least 2 sources.

5.       Create a poster that shows the differences between the life of a patrician and plebeian person. 

Include: food, home, work clothing, religion and entertainment.  Use at least 2 sources.

6.       Create a diorama or illustration of a Roman scene (e.g., house, baths, government session).  Include at least a half page written explanation.  Requires check in with teacher first.

7.       Draw an illustration of an important Roman building.  Label the parts and explain in detail the history and purpose of the building.  Use at least 2 sources.

8.       Create a poster comparison chart of Greek and Roman gods.  Include at least 10 gods with names, symbols and responsibilities for each god. Use at least 2 sources.

9.       Pretend you are a Roman leader, god or ordinary person.  Write a one page journal entry that includes important aspects of your life, roles/responsibilities and lifestyle.  Use at least 2 sources for background.

 

Extension Choices  If done well, you will earn extra credit.

10.    Independent Choice that has been cleared with your teacher.  For example, a video or skit.

11.      Come to class in costume and make a speech on a topic of interest to Romans.  In addition to the speech, include an explanation of why this topic would be of interest to Romans.

12.    Make a travelogue/tour book of ancient Roman highlights.  Include text and pictures. 

13.    Describe the Roman republic form of government.  Compare and contrast it to our government.  Comparison must be at least one page.  Use at least 2 sources for background.

v     Posters should be visually appealing.  Text and graphics/pictures should be on the same side.
