- Answer the following questions in complete sentences. Be specific for
all answers. Use information from the chapter reading and from class
activities.
- What did the Egyptians borrow from the Sumerians?
- Why do you think some experts call Egypt "the gift of the Nile"? Do
you think that is a good name? Explain.
- How did the Egyptians’ belief in an afterlife affect their daily life?
- List at least 3 similarities and/or differences between the government
of Egypt and the government of Babylon under Hammurabi.
- What role did the Hyksos play in the development of Egyptian
civilization?
- Why did Akhnaton oppose the priests of Amen-Re? Do you think he was
wise to oppose them? Explain why or why not.

ASSIGNMENT 2: Due in class Monday, November 4
- Choose one project from the list.
- Make a model of a pyramid no larger than 6" on the base. Write a one page
description of how and why they were built (no sugar cube pyramids!)
- Make a "how to" book of mummification with illustrations.
- After working with Mr. Rock in the art room during X-period, make a
cartouche of your name out of clay using real hieroglyphics, include a note
card explaining the importance of a cartouche to the Egyptians.
- Write a one-page report on contributions of ancient Egypt to world
culture. Note all sources.
- Write a one-page biographical sketch of an important figure in Ancient
Egypt. Note sources.
- Write a one-page report on the importance of geography to ancient
Egypt.
- Pretend that you’ve recently moved to Ancient Egypt. Write a one page
letter (to a friend from your old hometown) describing your daily life and
interesting things that you’ve seen.
- Have another idea for a project? Just get permission from your teacher
ahead of time.
