Homework policy, German, grades 7&8
Homework Mailbox: 429-5004, ext.6209
German
homework is assigned and due as follows: 7B: MONDAY, WEDNESDAY.
8A: TUESDAY, THURSDAY.
If a student does not have his or her homework completed on the day that it is due, he/she is expected to come in at the next available lunch or X-block period to complete the work. If the work is not completed by this time, it will be marked zero. If a student is absent, homework should be completed within one week after returning to school. Written homework is a practice of the material covered in class, and is collected and graded. Vocabulary and class notes should be reviewed nightly. There is a vocabulary or grammar quiz each week and a chapter test approximately once per marking period.
World
Language learning is cumulative; so it is very important that students stay
current with the nightly homework and seek assistance AS SOON as they feel
unsure of the subject matter. I am
available for X-Block on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. I am also available after school on Monday.
If you
have any questions throughout the year, please do not hesitate to call me or
send me an email. The school number is
429-9341, and my telephone and voice mail extension is 209. My email address is

Parents
often ask if there is anything they can do to help their child study a world
language. The following suggestions may
be helpful:
·
Students are given vocabulary regularly. Grammar concepts are covered in class and in
their textbook by chapter. Ask to see
the new material and ask your child to explain it to you.
·
Give your child the English word and have him/her pronounce and
spell the foreign word.
·
Homemade flashcards are helpful.
Foreign word on one side, English on the other. (color-coded cards work
great for distinguishing gender of nouns and are available at Ocean State Job
Lot, Staples, the UCONN Co-op, and many other office supply stores)
·
Encourage your child to type, write or tape-record the new
vocabulary. Students memorize material
in a variety of ways: encourage your child to discover what works best for
him/her.
·
Some students benefit from working with other students. A “Study Buddy” may be helpful for reviewing
and reinforcing new material.
·
Studying each night rather than just before a test keeps the
material in manageable amounts.
Consistent effort and self-discipline foster success.
·
Check to see that homework is completed. Ask to see the planbook
and the written assignments.
