Grade 6 German Program
Students in grade 6 participate in a rotation of German,
French, Latin and Spanish. They take one marking period in each language. The
emphasis of the grade six language program is oral/aural comprehension, and
culture. Our goal is to introduce the students to the languages in order to
allow them to make an educated decision for language study for the remainder of
their middle school experience. There is no nightly homework in sixth grade
German, and the students are graded with an S+, S, S-. This grade is determined
by class participation.
In German, the students learn conversational phrases, cognates
, the alphabet, the numbers from 0-100, the colors, animals, and the names, capitals and flags of the 5
European German-speaking countries.
We also learn simple songs and
poems, and some customs and vocabulary from various holidays.
