James Taylor- Song You’ve Got a Friend  Singer/songwriter who married Carly Simon (for a while).  Tradition of folk.

 

Carole King- Song Natural Woman  Her album, Tapestry, set new record for weeks on the Billboard Top 100 (more than 6 years!).

 

Crosby, Stills and Nash- Song Southern Cross.  Trio that briefly included Neil Young known for their complex harmonies.

 

Elton John (Reginald Dwight)- Song Candle in the Wind.  Wild British pianist known for crazy outfits.

 

Creedence Clearwater Revival- Song Proud Mary.  Pure, straightforward, American rock with a touch of Cajun.

 

Led Zeppelin- Song Stairway to Heaven.  Incorporated mythology into their hard rock songs.  Broke many records set by Beatles.

 

Fleetwood Mac- Song Landslide.  Stunningly successful blend of pop and rock. Lead singers Stevie Nicks and Lindsay Buckingham.

 

Allman Brothers- Song RamblinMan.Architects of Southern Rock. 

 

Lynyrd Skynyrd- Song Sweet Home Alabama.  Topped the charts with their own Southern Rock, strongly tinted with blues.

 

 

 

Eric Clapton- Song Layla. Guitarist inspired by ­­­B.B. King.  Began his carreer with the British band, Cream.

 

Doors- Song Light my Fire.  Lead singer Jim Morrison.  Sang songs about drugs, sex and the unknown.  Died of drug overdose.

 

Styx- Song Mr. Roboto. Pioneers in digital effects.

 

David Bowie- Song Ziggy Stardust.  Most famous performer of glam rock.  Became famous with his album, The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars.

 

 Pink Floyd- Song Brain Damage (Dark Side of the Moon).  British band with surreal themes in their music.  They hold the record for the most weeks in the Billboard Top 100 at 741 weeks (more than 14 years!!!).

 

 

 

Bee Gees- Song Stayin’ Alive.  Three brothers with the last name Gibb.  Burst onto the disco with the soundtrack of Saturday Night Fever.  5th biggest recording act of all time.

 

Village People- Song Y.M.C.A.  Openly gay disco quintet in flamboyant costumes.

 

Bob Marley- Song Three Little Birds.  Most famous performer of reggae, which is a combination of rock and Caribbean music.
