Speech Pathologist

Hi, I'm Karen Hunyadi, the speech/language pathologist here at Mansfield Middle School. I have been at MMS for 10 years, however, I have been a SLP for 22 years. Previous to moving to CT, I worked in a variety of settings in both Philadelphia and Ohio. All of my professional jobs have been filled with excitement, challenges, and have opened new doors to learning.

As a member of the Support Services team I am committed to supporting a school environment that enables all students to achieve their full potential. The staff works collaboratively with classroom teachers and parents to provide a variety of programs that mirror the diversity of the student population.

I work with children throughout all of the grades at the middle school level. The students are serviced individually, in groups or within the classroom setting. As the SLP my caseload consists of, but is not limited to, children who manifest speech and/or language difficulties as a result of autism, cognitive challenges, central auditory processing disorders, articulation difficulties, neurological disorders, receptive/expressive language disorders or delays, head injury, voice or stuttering. Augmentative communication devices and a variety of technologies needed to enhance communication are widely used and embraced by the MMS community while being monitored by the SLP.  Along with language needs, those children in need of auditory amplification may be supported through the use of a personal or portable FM system.  In addition, children with language literacy difficulties may be seen by the SLP to enhance foundational language/literacy skills.

Please feel free to contact me with questions or comments regarding the speech/language program at our school. You may contact me Monday through Friday by voice mail at 429-9341 ext. 227 or e-mail HunyadiK@mansfieldct.org.
