The sixth grade reading program
consists three tiers: |

Consists of
thematic units that teach the development of specific reading skills such as: Comprehending Clarifying Questioning Summarizing Predicting/Inferring Making Generalizations Making Judgments |
Provides practice
and reinforcement of reading skills at students’ instructional levels. Gives
students opportunities to discuss literature in a group setting. |
Enables
students to self-select independent books. This helps students to develop
reading stamina and reflect on the story elements in a book of their choice. Students
are expected to read 30 minutes five nights a week! |
All three tiers include written
components to ensure that students are accountable for their own learning.
