Religion Links
The
Grade 6 curriculum includes an introduction to major religions of the world.
This unit emphasizes the characteristics of each religion noting similarities
and differences among them. For the purposes of this unit, and because of time
constraints, we will limit our study to Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism,
Christianity, and Islam. The following websites are made available for the
purposes of locating information about the specific religions we cover. They
represent the most comprehensive as well as the most neutral and unbiased
sources of information we could locate.
The first website
expresses a philosophy about learning religion:
“Religious
inquiry is something that nearly all humans share in common. In all corners of
the world and in all eras of history, people have wondered about the meaning of
life, how to make the best of it, what happens afterwards, and if there is
anything or anyone "out there.” Our only "value statements" are
these: (1) religion is interesting; (2) knowledge is good.”
