MMSA Meeting Minutes

February 7, 2006

The meeting was called to order at 7:03pm

The minutes from the 12-06-05 meeting were approved.

Treasurer’s Report – Barbara Davis was unable to attend the meeting, but the reports were sent via e-mail.  Account balance is $9272.64; bills from the Book Fair in November are still due.

Old Business –

MMSA Bylaw review – after some discussion and some minor changes, the bylaws were approved.  Monique Roy will type up the final copy.

Open Gym Night (February 3, 2006) – Scott Brandon reported that the evening went well, the kids had fun.  Too much pizza was ordered, so it will be suggested for next year that just drinks and snacks be sold.  When the sales and expenses were added up, the event cost the MMSA $3.00.

New Business

History Day – Regional History Day is scheduled for Saturday, March 25th.  Cindy Witek-Brandon and Mary Ann Barton came to the meeting asking for help and volunteers.  People are needed for set-up Friday March 24 from 4 to 6pm, on Saturday morning from 7:30-10:30am, then for lunch and cleanup from 10:30am to 1:30pm.  A sign up sheet was passed around, and a request for volunteers will go out in the newsletter.  A planning meeting is scheduled for Wednesday March 8th at 6pm.

Magazine Drive – Jaime Russell and Scott Brandon are heading this fundraiser.  The drive runs from March 9th through March 21st.  Some volunteers will be needed in the mornings to help the kids hand in their orders correctly.

MMSA Presentation to the MBOE – on Thursday 2-9 Mary Sikand, Scott Brandon, and any other MMSA members who wish to attend will be making a brief presentation to the Board of Education.  The Board wants to know what we do and how we do it.  Some students, under the direction of Donna Korapatkin, will be doing a musical number on the African drums, which the MMSA helped purchase last year with one of its grants.

Program Committee – Jeff Cryan reported that he’d contacted Anne Roesler,  and she is interested in running a Human Growth and Development program for 5th & 6th graders, and another on Family Communications for the 7th grade.  The MMSA agreed to underwrite both programs with our $800 speaker budget.    The cost for the 7th grade program is approximately $300. The $500 balance will be applied to the 5th/6th grade program, with the Middle School picking up another portion and parents being asked to pay the balance, which would be about $15.  Dates for the program(s) need to be finalized.

Discussion was also had about bringing in Tony Wolf in the fall, and doing another presentation on Internet Safety.

Spring Fund Raisers – the MMSA will sell refreshments at the performances of “Fiddler on the Roof”, April 7, 8 & 9.  A date of Tuesday May 9th was set for the Plant Sale.

Administrative Report

Jeff Cryan reported that when the MBOE visits the school on 2-9, they will also be visiting a classroom to see the new projectors and smart boards, then visit the auditorium to see the upgrades in lighting.  He reported that the recent “One School One Read” program went very well and got a positive response from the students.  Both the boys and girls basketball teams won their divisions in the championship games.  The after school tutoring program is ready to start, as well as a Chinese language program.  The CMT’s are set to start on March 6th and run through March 17th.  The last day of school currently stands at Monday, June 24th.

Other Business

MMSA Event History – because of misplaced notes from past years, Mary Sikand made up a form that could be filled out after different events, which outlines what was done, purchased, how much it cost, etc.  Scott Brandon was given the first one to try from Open Gym Night, to see if anything else should be added.

Nominating Committee – Eva Csejtey noted that it’s time for the Committee to start its work on nominations for the 2006-07 school year.  Anyone interested should contact her.

The meeting adjourned at 8:25
