MMSA Meeting Minutes

Called To Order: 7:01 p.m.

 

Approval of Minutes of May 2006:   Approval of minutes tabled until next MMSA meeting.

 

Old Business:

MMSA slate of new officers was not voted in at the end of last year.  Upon a motion made by M. Kelley and seconded by C. Dainton it was

 

                       Voted: to approve slate of officers as written

 

Treasurer’s Report: 

-  Current budget indicates approximately $4,000.00 in checking account.

-  Variance Report was reviewed and submitted.

-  Discussion regarding five main ways to raise funds 1.Gift wrap  2.Membership dues  3.Photos   4.Plant sale   5.Play concessions.   Anticipated income is $6,400.

-  Discussion about MMS staff for worthy requests.  S. Lambert will contact J. Phillips to discuss how worthy requests are determined.  W. Trembly explained teachers ask for funds from MMSA for items they would otherwise go without.  The faculty is extremely appreciative for the assistance.

 

New Business:

-  Open House - September 27.  MMSA will hold membership drive during Open House. 

-  Middle School Education Week October 22-26.  Another opportunity for Parents/Guardians to visit classrooms.

-  MMSA has an opening for membership chair.  Will encourage sign up at Open House.

-  Fall Fundraiser - Gift Wrap - will be sent out in late September.

 

Administrative Report:

-   J. Cryan explained year is off to a great start.  He discussed staff changes.  MMS has been designated Ct. Middle School of The Year by the Ct. Assoc. Of Schools.  Jeff would like a representative of the MMSA to attend celebration ceremony on Sept. 27.

-  Long term building projects - First project is related to heating system.  This project is still in the exploratory stage.  Second project involves renovations at all four schools.  Tentative public hearing scheduled for Oct. 11.

-  Need more families to sign up for the K-12 Now notification system.


-  Chinese Partner School scheduled to visit Sept. 23-30.

-  German students visit on Sept 30.

-   CMTs - MMS made adequate yearly progress.  Staff exploring better ways to motivate boys in area of writing.

-   Following discussion, upon motion made and seconded it was

 

Voted: to allocate $1500 for school pride T-shirts. 

 

-   For security reasons, the front doors of MMS will remained locked, visitors must use bus lot entrance.   Late buses will pick up in front of school.  Administration is looking into different monitoring systems.

-   Mr. Cryan answered questions about new bus company.  Durham Bus Co.  is a national company.  There is still a shortage of bus drivers.

-   History Day - March 29, Saturday - K. Kelley volunteered to help with this event.

-   Drama production -“The Brave Little Tailor” November 15-18.

 

Other Business:

-   Next meeting of MMSA - Tues. October 2, 7:00 p.m.  No December or January meeting.
