MMSA Meeting Minutes
October 3, 2006
Call to Order: 8:40 p.m., directly following an internet safety program, the highlights of which will be available online at a future date. Announcement will go out to parents when complete.
The minutes from September 5, 2006 were approved.
Treasurer’s Report- Combined checking and savings account balance of $5,412.11.
Old Business-
Membership Drive-155 membership forms were received and a total of $1350 collected.
Committee Updates-MMSA President Mary Sikand reported that a number of parents had signed up to fill vacancies for the MMSA, but that chairpersons for History Day and 8th Grade Promotion remain vacant. Anyone interested is urged to contact Cari Vincente, head of the Membership Committee.
On Wednesday, October 11, psychologist Tony Wolf, author of many books, including Get Out of My Life, but First Could You Drive Me and Cheryl to the Mall, returns to entertain and educate parents. Sponsored by MMSA.
New Business
Grant Committee Report-Grant Committee Chair, Sondra Boyer, reported that with the $4200 budget allotted, the MMSA fully funded five grant requests, and partially funded three others. Grants funded included a story-teller residency for grade 5 language arts students, a DVD camcorder to enhance the Readers Theater Program, the purchase of five hydrogen fuel kits for an after school program, funds for interested fifth grade students to attend the Junior Solar Sprint, and digital cameras for an after-school digital photo club.
Open Gym Night will be held Nov. 3, from 6-8 pm.
Fundraising presentations-Beth Murtha-Paradis proposed a fundraiser with a line of aromatherapy products. The suggestion was made to revisit this proposal and discuss other fundraising possibilities at the November meeting.
Administrative Report
MMS Principal Jeff Cryan delivered the following administrative report. CMT scores have gone out in the mail to families. Progress reports go out this week.
Mr. Cryan apologized for problems with school buses. He explained that a personnel issue at the bus company has caused difficulty, but that new drivers had been hired and were being trained.
MMS purchased an emergency notification system, an announcement of which will go out to families. By signing up online, families may receive automatic notices of routine messages, such as reminder for MMSA meetings, and emergency notices of school closings, late buses, etc.
