MMSA Meeting Minutes

June 6, 2006

 

Call to Order:  7:05 p.m.

 

The minutes from April 4, 2006 were approved.

 

Treasurer’s Report- Combined checking and savings account balance of $6,579.13.  After paying pending bills, an anticipated $4,000 carryover remains.  (See attached Treasurer’s report.)

 

Old Business-

 

The Book Fair-MMS School Librarian Linda Robinson offered to take on coordinating future book fairs, with the help of MMSA volunteers.  The library is the recipient of the money raised and is also the site of the fair.  Motion was accepted for Linda Robinson to coordinate future book sales.

 

The Magazine Drive-$2049.00 reported as profit.  All profit goes to MMS technology needs.

 

Teacher Appreciation Breakfast-The event changed from the traditional lunch to a breakfast event, which included all staff, to better reflect MMSA gratitude to the entire school community.  It was a great success.

 

Plant Sale- Profit reported at $306, down from the previous year, due in large part to rainy weather.  Volunteer Sondra Boyer suggested raising prices next year to be more competitive with the market.

 

“Getting to Know You” events and Teas- Vice President Scott Brandon reported that the events went very well.

 

Nominating Committee Report and Vote on New MMSA Board- President Mary Sikand went over the openings and described positions.  Sheryl Lambert volunteered to be Vice President.  Motion accepted to approve new MMSA board.

 

New Business

 

2006-2007 Budget-Mary Sikand presented the proposed 2006-2007 budget, which included a balance forward of $4000 from 2005-2006, anticipated 06-07 revenue of $5,700 and anticipated expenses of $8,150, leaving an anticipated excess of $1,550 at end of June ’07..  Motion accepted to approve 2006-2007 budget.

 

Closing Ceremony-The closing ceremony for 8th graders was held June 22, 2006.

 

Gifts for Retiring Teachers-MMS Librarian Linda Robinson recommended and will purchase the following books as donations to honor retiring teachers: Student Rights (to honor Lydia Myers) and Customs and Culture of Thailand (to honor Judy McChesney.)

 

Meeting Calendar-Motion approved for the MMSA to meet once a month during 2006-2007 year.  Meetings held the first Tuesday of every month at 7 p.m. in Room 99.

 

Programs for Fall-On October 3, MMS will hold an Internet Safety Night.  More details to follow at September meeting.

 

On Wednesday, October 11, psychologist Tony Wolf, author of many books, including Get Out of My Life, but First Could You Drive Me and Cheryl to the Mall, returns to entertain and educate parents.

 

Family Fun Night: Friday, November 3.

 

Other Business

 

A new wellness policy is being forwarded to the Board of Education this year, with nutritional guidelines.  The MMS community wants to encourage the discussions of offering more variety in the menu.

 

The next MMSA meeting is Sept. 5, at 7 p.m. in Room 99.  Refreshments at 6:30 for beginning of the year opportunity to get acquainted.
