MMS World Language Team
The World Language program at Mansfield Middle School focuses at the beginning levels on the five essential goals of language learning:
    1. Communication – Students communicate on a variety of familiar topics of personal interest.
    2. Culture – Students engage in activities that promote the knowledge, appreciation and understanding of other cultural traditions.
    3. Connections – Students access new information and explore issues related to many other subject areas.
    4. Comparisons – Students gain insight into other cultures and the nature of language. They are encouraged to note contrasts and parallels among languages and customs.
    5. Communities – Students use the language both within and beyond the school setting.

We teach four languages: Latin, French, German, and Spanish. Students entering Grade 5 continue the Spanish FLES program begun in Grade 2. Sixth graders participate in an exploratory program studying one language each quarter. In Grade 7 students begin a two year sequence of study equivalent to a high school level 1 program. All four languages stress listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills.

Successful completion of requirements may lead to a recommendation for Level II placement in grade nine.
