MMS Visual Arts Program
Mansfield students study visual arts
for nine weeks each year as part of a Related Arts rotation. Art students
explore art history and cultural connections through projects that expose
them to a wide variety of art media. They produce artworks that express
their personal experience and creativity and reflect commonalties and
differences with the artist(s) or culture(s) being addressed within a
given Unit of Study.
Through these experiences, students acquire
visual and fine motor skills, learn the basics of art structure (art
elements and principles), develop art vocabulary, creativity, problem
solving strategies, and critical thinking skills. By connecting visual
arts to academic and life experiences, students develop an understanding
and appreciation for the visual arts.
