- This lesson makes interesting use of some of the great programs that you can get for PDAs.
HEALTH top
- Assessing Personal Health
- This lesson uses the PDA to monitor a student's health and eating habits. It requires the purchase of additional software.
INTEGRATED LESSONS/UNITS top
- 8th Grade Math & Science Unit
- This unit was created by 2002 UConn interns specifically for the 8th grade students at MMS.
- Book Smart (Interdisciplinary)
- This lesson may need to be adjusted to fit a middle school classroom, but is great for any 7th or 8th grade class that is working with bibliographies. It can be found on page two of this newsletter.
- Tech Survey (Math & S.S.)
- This math and social studies integrated lesson is great for students who are learning about data collection. It can be found on page two of this newsletter.
- Then and Now (S.S. & L.A.)
- This social studies and Language Arts lesson has great potential for community building and family involvement in students' work. It can be found on page three of this newsletter.

- Building Biographies
- Here is a great new way to introduce biographies to your class. This lesson uses Palm Reader, eBooks, and Quizzler.
- Point of View
- Here is a very simple handheld use for a great lesson. No extra programs needed. It can be found on page three of this newsletter.
- Word Attack
- This lesson is meant for elementary students, but could be used for any student or class in the middle school that needs help on either their sight word vocabulary or their suffix/ prefix knowledge. It can be found on page two of this newsletter.
MATH top
- Algebra Action
- This is a fun lesson to use with students.
- Double Your Money
- This is a great lesson plan that can help students understand exponential growth. It can be found on page two of this newsletter.
- Exploring Roman Numerals
- This lesson uses a great calculator that works with Roman numerals.
- Line it Up
- This lesson is made for a 10th grade Geometry class, but the activity could be used as a challenge for any high achieving Algebra students.
READING/WRITING top
- I Have a Dream
- A personal favorite topic of Mr. Swale's, this lesson plan uses the PDA to explore a great piece of American history. This lesson can be found on page two of this newsletter.
- Scary Stories
- This is a fun, exciting lesson that focuses on a great Halloween topic. It can be found on page three of this newsletter.
SCIENCE top
- Cold Enough To Freeze Water
- This lesson uses probes that are compatible for the PDA. It can be found on page three of this newsletter.
- Contagious!
- This lesson uses Cooties, which is a very simple program to use. This lesson can be found on page three of this newsletter.
- Fun with Heredity
- This is a great lesson that could also lead into a lesson using Geney.
- Heat Absorption and Color
- This is an intriguing lesson that looks at the relationship between unequal heating of cups of different colors in context of the sun heating land and water on the Earth's surface.
- Let There Be Light
- This lesson makes use of a light sensor and data collection software on the PDA. It can be found on page three of this newsletter.
- Weather or Not
- This is a great high school science lesson that is easily adaptable to fit the middle school classroom. It can be found on page two of this newsletter.
